Impossible Elections and Official Gaslighting

Haiti’s U.S.-constructed nine-member Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) expires in three months, on Feb. 7, 2026, by which date they were to have inaugurated an elected government.

There has not been an election in Haiti since 2016, and the terms of every single elected official – executive, parliamentary, and municipal – has expired.

In September 2024, under the CPT’s now replaced Prime Minister Garry Conille, a new Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) was appointed, but in over a year, it has made no progress.

The CEP’s own president, Jacques Desrosiers, stated on Radio Mega on Oct. 31 that “it is materially impossible to hold elections before Feb 7,” but nonetheless, the same day, the CEP issued a draft Electoral Decree establishing the polling’s rules and regulations, telling Haitians through a statement on its Facebook page that they have until 5 p.m. on Nov. 10 to deliver feedback to them, by hand, at their Pétionville headquarters.

This absurd, contradictory situation results from the Oct. 18, 2025 face-to-face meeting that U.S. Ambassador to Haiti Henry Wooster and four members of his staff had with the entire CPT as well as their second PM Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. Washington instructed its Haitian de facto authorities to do, in effect, whatever it takes to provide the leaderless Haitian state with a democratic veneer so as to provide cover for the 5,500-soldier Gang Suppression Force (GSF) that Washington is assembling in an effort to crush the armed rebellion by Haiti’s shanty towns.

Writer and social media figure Kervens Louissaint issued a statement which, we surmise, captures the sentiment of most Haitians about the CEP and its recent actions.

Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council, without legal basis, without people, without mandate, without conscience, is inviting “civil society” to come and take their draft electoral decree to give their opinion on a document written by a bunch of lackey bourgeois while the people are starving.

We hear them talking about alleged “elections” while the country is completely destroyed, while children are running under bullets and hunger, while the majority of the people do not even have an identity card.

This “election” will be with whom? In which country?

Perhaps in the same way that you have been appointing interim agents right and left, that is how you are doing it?

Let’s be frank: what they are calling the “next electoral rounds” is not democracy — it is a diplomatic masquerade, a shell game to make those who give then money happy, that is the U.S. Embassy.

They know very well that the CPT is an anti-constitutional body; they know very well that the country is under a military, political, and moral occupation, but they still want to put the face of “normality” on it to whitewash the treason.

Every election is the same trap — they make the people “choose” from a group of pre-selected opportunists, and they say it is the “popular will.”

We say no. We will not sign onto this masquerade. We will not vote, we will not participate. Because participating in lies is betraying the memory of our ancestors. It is destroying the last remnants of our nation’s dignity.

Those who talk about “elections” in this country today are either complicit, crazy, or corrupt. Because you cannot build democracy on the corpse of President Jovenel Moïse, on a territory without justice, on a people under domination, without sovereignty.

We do not need new “elections.” We need an end to this system run by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB) and the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH).

We need to uproot everything that produces lies, everything that serves the foreigners against the people.

This CEP is not independent. It is political theater, a caricature of democracy, a joke, a cynical act conducted over the corpse of founding father Jean-Jacques Dessalines, who was assassinated on Oct. 17, 1806, an insult to the blood of all the people’s children who fell under the bullets of the “state” while politicians sign contracts with foreigners behind closed doors.

We remember our history: they, the bourgeois freedmen, killed Dessalines, sold the country, and continue to make the people vote against themselves.

What they call the CEP is not an institution — it is just the occupation’s secretariat, a political zombification, a small team writing papers to please Washington and its vassals in the OAS and CARICOM.

They want to hold “elections” to continue the same system that has been killing the country since Oct. 17, 1806 — the system where a few people (the freedmen) always play with the lives of the majority (the People of Dessalines).

And there are people, without patriotism, without memory, without spines, who still believe that this can bring change. But what change can come from lies?

On Jun. 20, 2025, thousands of Haitians marching through the streets of Carrefour calling for a revolution.

What sovereignty can come from violating the nation’s laws, that is, its Constitution?

In an “election” held on the basis of violence, only violence will come from it. The people do not need new “elections”. The people need truth, justice, and dignity.

They need a state that respects and represents them, not a council that serves diktats from the U.S. State Department.

So, CEP, keep your papers. Keep your “draft decree.” We, the people, will not have anything to do with it. Because while you play with your pens in your Pétion-Ville offices, the people are beginning to raise their heads. The people are beginning to understand: no ballot can contain the dignity of a nation that refuses to surrender.

Revolution has already begun in the streets, in the hearts of those who are tired, in the conscience of those who say enough is enough.

Go vote for yourself, CEP. The people have already decided: we will fire you!
